Ian Heard's Classic Boats of the West Country published by Cornwall based Bossiney Books is an Artist's view of the working craft of Devon and Cornwall.  "The craft and their details are exquisitely drawn with Heard's eye for scale and form bringing the boats to life" CLASSIC BOAT MAGAZINE 

This book is an introduction to 'Classic Boats', designed to encourage the reader look again, make contact with the humble working boats of Britain that helped found our maritime history. 

Ian is producing a range of limited edition prints from the book in his own Devon studio which are a available from Farawayisland Giclee.

Ian Heard was born in Cornwall and grew up in his family’s boat yard on the River Fal. This childhood gave him his lasting love of the sea and sailing boats, especially working boats and traditional craft. He studied illustration and worked in Cornwall before moving to Oxford to pursue a career in design and advertising. Ian established his own studio in the Cotswolds in the late 80s and has been commissioned by corporate clients and many leading publishers. Returning to the west country, Ian continues to work in illustration and design. Ian is often asked to talk and demonstrate various techniques. He is still passionate about the importance of traditional draftsmanship in an art world increasingly dominated by technology, and has recently helped make a painting program for ITV.  

On the very light side and extremely enjoyable too!
