100 Years of Calstock Viaduct
100 Years of Calstock Viaduct and the Bere Alston - Gunnislake railway
23 February - 3 March 2008
The spectacular Calstock Viaduct and the highly scenic section of the Tamar Valley Line between Bere Alston and Gunnislake are celebrating their centenaries in 2007 and 2008.
Between 23 February and 3 March 2008, a whole series of events has been organised to celebrate 100 years of trains between Bere Alston, Calstock and Gunnislake and to mark the Centenary of the Callington branch line.
The Centenary itself, 2 March, will see a host of events with ceremonies at all three stations.
No trains on the Gunnislake line
No Trains on the Gunnislake Line Great Western Railways are undertaking their bi annual maintenance work on the line from Plymouth to Gunnislake on Monday 8th October to Friday the 12th October inclusive. Customer of WQB comes 2nd in photographic competition
Mel Fine, owner of Lysander (the pretty clinker built river boat that is for sale at the yard), has recently come 2nd in the Tamar Valley Services Photographic Competition for 2007 - Moods of the Tamar. The photo as many of you will probably notice was taken at the yard and we're pleased that our workspace can once again give people the opportunity to show their artistic side. We want to include her photo around our website as we all agree that it does indeed reflect the 'Moods of the Tamar' wonderfully.
Stromboli destroys Weir Quay flag
It is clear that after a two year voyage to the Carribean and back that the Weir Quay flag which accompanied Stromboli is ready for retirement. The amount of flying the WQB flag has had to do has resulted in it looking fairly sorry for its self.
We weren't aware of this until the Chadwick's came in with a package for Mike. They went on to say that they would give us something, but they wanted something in return. This phrase always worries Mike so he continued to open the package to find out what was expected. To his delight they had framed the WQB flag from the voyage and in return they wanted a new one. The deal was done and the retired flag is soon to be displayed in the office at WQB.
Sparta 22 - Sundancer Too reduced in price
Sundancer Too, the 4 berth Sparta 22, has recently been reduced in price from £4500 to £3500. Further details are available by clicking here and as an excellent starter boat it may be worth taking a closer look.
Customers of WQB with an orange Zodiac Tender!
A while a go we were asked to send an orange, Zodiac tender off to be repaired. It's now been returned to us, but unfortunately has no name on it. If it belongs to you then please give us a call to let us know.
Thanks,
Ruth
Centenary Celebrations - TT Races!
Nigel Rollason, owner of MGRS 34 ‘Rebel’, took part in the centenary celebrations of the famous TT races in the Isle of Man. The only man alive to have won the race on both 3 wheels and 2 wheels, Nigel is seen here participating in the laps of honour for all past winners. He is photographed by our very own marine engineer, Richard Drew.

Black Magic and her double Dutch
A very fine Kim Holman designed Stella 26, Black Magic, came
ashore in May for a spruce up and has been re-launched to her mooring. The keel was blasted and epoxy coated and the
topsides burnt off to her mahogany clinker before a complete re-paint in the
workshed in Blakes Pale Cream with the sheerstrake and transom brought out in
black.
Black Magic looks every inch the classic little
cruiser/racer and not so very different from the 26’ clinker built Jupiter 26
that is currently being re-fitted in the shed. She has also had her keel blasted and epoxied and topsides burnt off for
a repaint in International’s Mauritius Blue. The Jupiter is called Bleuwe Slenk and was bought in
