AONB Photos
A little while ago we had the photographer and cameraman Ted Giffords in the yard taking photos for the AONB Resounding Images exhibition. He has been kind enough to let me have copies of the photos for the website. Take a look - they're really quite impressive. If you want to see anymore of Ted Giffords photos then look at his website www.tedgiffords.co.uk.
New Boats added to the Brokerage List
We have now added some new boats to our brokerage list as follows:-
Elsie Isobel - A Gentleman's Twin Screw Motor Launch 1936 30'. Bulit at Scantelbery of Stonehouse, Elsie Isobel is a traditional local boat of fine teak construction and the sister ship of the famous Dunkirk Little Ship, Tom Tit. Remarkably, having only 2 owners since new, she is in original condtion and sound as a bell. Two Albin 18hp diesel engines generate up to 9 knots. £24,750.
Wych Capella - Aquastar 27 Motor Cruiser 1979/80. A strong, traditional, gentleman's coastal cruiser with a central wheel house and aft cabin, providing 4 berths. She has twin reconditioned (2005) Mermaid 75hp engines with lots of new gear and has been substantially re-furbished externally during 2006, including a 2-pack epoxy re-spray and newly fitted galley. Requires interior re-fit and TLC to bring up to a very fine standard throughout. £19,500.
Ian Heard Painting
Painting by Ian Heard of Weir Quay Boatyard
We have recently commisioned the local artist Ian Heard who you may know from the book Classic Boats of Westcountry to paint a picture of Weir Quay Boatyard.
As well as the original painting at £575 we now also have signed prints available for sale at the cost of £65 unframed or £120 framed.
It really is a beautiful picture as you can see above and it is also the front cover to our new and improved 2007 tide timetable.
For more information call WQB on 01822 840474 or click here for more information on Ian Heard.
Ruth back from Germany
Ruth who works on the website at Weir Quay Boatyard has just returned from three months in Germany. This should hopefully mean that our website will be updated on a regulard basis once again. We recommend that you keep an eye on the brokerage, news and forum in particular. If there is something you want to know, but can't find it on our website then please give us a call.
New Yard Hand
We now have a new yard hand at the boatyard called George Hilson. At the moment he'll just be working 3 days a week, but will be starting as a full time member of the WQB team from the new year. Some of you may remember Hannah Hilson who was our yard hand a couple of years ago and a very useful member person to have around. You would often see her driving the crane and transporter. George is Hannah's brother and has worked odd days for us previously so we are looking forward to him becoming a more permanent member of the team.
Wanted - Hustler 30
A customer at WQB is currently looking to upgrade to a Hustler 30 - a cruising racer from the 1970s, originally designed by William Pye, and with very pretty lines and a good turn of speed. If anyone knows of a Hustler 30 that is or may be on the market, they should contact WQB in the first instance.
A Story from South Georgia
The owner of WQB’s Jaembea ( a Lochen Dory) is working and living in South Georgia and has send this very interesting account of life in the South Atlantic. He will be back at Weir Quay in the Spring and I am sure be appreciating the contrast of our peaceful valley with that of life amongst Sooties, sea lions and penguins.
“Countdown to leaving is ticking away, but I’d hate to be actually counting down the days – and I’m not, it’ll be time to go soon enough, for now the arrival of spring – and with it all kinds of visitors to shatter the peace, in good ways and bad ones. There’s also rather a lot to get finished. The run up and first call includes the dreaded annual scrubout, as well as anticipation and preparation for the unloading of the following year’s worth of cargo. Most of the benefit of doing all this will not be enjoyed by ourselves, but by the new folks. Which is simply how it works.
A Fine Holman Classic - Andorran
A very fine Holman Classic from 1964 is for sale at WQB. Built in
Andorran is a fast cruiser racer with 5 berths. She is still very sporty and has an excellent racing pedigree from the sixties, when she won several RORC channel races and was well-placed in many others, including the Fastnet, Harwich to Hook and
