Artists open their studios

Artists open their studios

Drawn to the Valley brings together many artists from the Tamar Valley area in the aim to promote art to the public by putting on exhibitions and having open studio days.  There are a huge variety of artists that belong to the Drawn to the Valley project and many take their inspiration from the countryside in which they live.  From 2nd - 10th September 49 of these artists will be taking part in the open studios, giving the public an opportunity to view their work which is beautifully diverse.  To see a directory of the artists involved click here or pick up a booklet from our office.

The Ocean Ranger Returns to Form/Saves the Day

The 27’ 1950s Percy Mitchel Yard launch has come into her own over the last fortnight. Re-furbished over the winter – see Yard Diary passim – Ocean Ranger is now the principal and only WQB workboat in commission and has been ploughing up and down the Tamar upper reaches, towing and tugging and ferrying.

New Price - Mirage 29

New price Mirage 29

Offers over £20k are invited on the Mirage 29 for sale at WQB.  The local owners are reluctantly selling the boat which they have poured thousands of pounds into in the last few years.  The price has been reduced still further because they are building a new home in Bere Ferrers and have no time left for their much-loved  Mistral.

Wych Capella Re-launched

Wych Capella Re-launched

In the big and brutal autumn of October 2005, Whych Capella, a 27' motor launch, slipped her Cargreen mooring through a failed stainless shackle pin and ended up under the trees on the Cornish bank (see yard diary). The opportunityof an insurance claim for half a new rub rail, led from one thing to another. Now she has been re-launched after a major re-fit at WQB and is looking like a new boat. Works completed include:

  • New rub rail in black PVC D-section
  • Topside respray with Awlgrip - Stannary Signs
  • Refurbished wheel house coach roof and deck sides - Fleet Hull Systems
  • New bowroller
  • Refurbished galley with stainless worktops
  • New mast
